| The original Tomorrowland from 1955 was designed to represent the futuristic date of 1986. It received updates in 1959 when the monorail was added, 1967 with the addition of the PeopleMover and Carousel of Progress, and 1977 with the opening of Space Mountain.
In 1998 (long past 1986) it got a major update. Instead of giving a specific time period this time, Disney Imagineers used a theme of imagination and inspiration to guide its look. Tomorrowland now pays homage to past dreamers like Leonardo Da Vinci with the Astro Orbitor (shown here), H.G.Wells and Jules Verne along with modern visionaries. Modern innovations are put on display in the Innoventions attraction.
Every plant in Tomorrowland is edible (called “agrifuture”). This is to show that the world of tomorrow won't be filled with tablets for dinner. | | |
