Unlike standard elevators, whose goal is to provide as smooth of a ride as possible, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror offers an exhilarating rush from the two elevator lifts above. Gravity alone wasn't enough to make the drop as sensational as the Imagineers wanted it. So they made the elevators drop faster than the speed that gravity could take them!
